General Microsoft Exam Retake Policy

  • If a candidate does not achieve a passing score on the first test, the candidate must wait 24 hours before retaking the test. At that time, candidates can log in to their certification panel and reschedule the exam by themselves.
  • If the candidate does not reach the passing score the second time, the candidate must wait at least 14 days before retaking the third exam.
  • There is a 14-day waiting period between the third and fourth attempts and the fourth and fifth attempts.
  • Candidates must not take a specific exam more than five times in 12 months. This 12-month period starts from the first attempt. Candidates are eligible to retake the exam 12 months from the date of the first attempt.
  • To take specific exams more than five times a year or eliminate the time between attempts, candidates must encounter one of the errors listed below and request an exception from Microsoft.
Unless your certification has expired, you cannot retake an exam you have passed.

Submit a request to retest an exception

To retake the exam without waiting for the required time, you must submit an exception request. If the request meets one of the following exceptions, the request will be approved. If the test fails due to a candidate’s lack of preparation, knowledge, skills, or abilities, the test shall not be allowed to be retaken.
Send the request to mlsecure@microsoft.com. Your request must include all of the following information:

  • First name and last name.
  • Identify candidates.
  • The email associated with your candidate ID.
  • Exam record ID.
  • Exam number.
  • Wrong description.
  • Pearson VUE case number.
  • If any of this information is missing, the replay exception request will be rejected.
